The prospects for peace in the country's eight-year civil war are becoming brighter...
I believe the above sentence is correct. But I'm still having a problem with in. If it were up to me I could have written it as: The prospects for peace after the country's eight-year civil war are becoming brighter...
What do you say? Is my way correct or am I missing something?

Good point! I think the original sentence is absolutely OK. "In" emphasizes that peace is far from achieved and it'll require great efforts to stop the war, interrupt the war with piece, thrust the sword of peace into the body of war...

  • "After" doesn't work very well here because every war -- sooner or later -- ends with a peace, sp demanding peace after the a war is something that's doomed to be fulfilled...

  Good point!      I  think  the  original  sentence  is  absolutely   OK.   "In"    emphasizes that peace is far from achieved and  it'll  require    great efforts to stop the war, interrupt the war  with  piece,    thrust the sword of peace into the body of war...      "After" doesn't work very  well  here  because  every  war  --    sooner or later -- ends with a peace, sp demanding peace

You can't use after because the war isn't over yet. The prospects for peace need to happen before the war is over.
Think of in as equivalent to in the matter of.
The prospects for peace in the matter of the country's eight-year civil war are ...
