The proportion of population in several major cities

The bar graph highlights the proportion of population in several major cities around the world in a research period from 1950 to 2030.

In general, the percentage of people living in North America is by far highest over the given period. Interestingly, a rise in the number of people in urban areas is forecast.

It is evident from the graph that in 1950, while in first place was the rate of population in North America, the figure for Africa was lowest, with 64% and 15% respectively. Regarding population in Europe, the rate of this was 51%, which was three times as many as Asia, at 17%.

Latin America Caribbean witnessed a considerable upward trend, from 42% to 76% during 1950 and 2007. In 2007, North America remained stable the number one, with 79% compared with only 37% of Africa and nearly half (49%) of World. In 2030, the graph shows that the number of people who will settle in urban areas is estimated to grow, with 60% of World. The figure for North America is expected to rise to 79%, making slightly higher than Latin and Europe, with 76% and 72% in turn.
