The proper way to make this statement.. it is not a question but a statement simply implying that a particular thing is needed.

Hi

Can you please tell me the proper way to make this statement. Boy, do I need a glass of water!

My friend explained that this statement is incorrect because any sentence beginning with the word DO will and should end with a question mark. He explained I need to switch out the DO with the I and state it this way... Boy I do need a glass of water!

But I feel that is incorrect. He learned english from an english british person and I was educated in the USA.

Which is correct?

Also, we spoke about earthquakes and he insisted that another way to say earthquake is groundshake.

I looked this word (groundshake) up in the dictionary and it is not there.

Anonymous Boy, do I need a glass of water! Since " Boy " has the same grammatical function as " wow " or " My *** " which are typically followed by exclaimation mark, I think you won the argument there. Perhaps, you can even add one more exclaimation mark at the end of the sentence, depending how it was writtien.

I never heard "groundshake." It must be British.

Boy, do I need a glass of water!

This is quite natural in casual conversation.
I'd call it an exclamation rather than a statement. Note the exclamation point at the end.

If you wish to calm down and make it a normal declarative sentence, ending in
