"the problems were not without interest"

What does it mean? I gave up, I have no idea what i could mean...

The context:

"They want your help, too Father. You probably won't be incarnate when the first ships depart, but your wisdom will be invaluable in the planning stages."
"Of course I'll help in any way I can," Harrok replied. Strong shaxzhutok carried obligations as well as privileges and, to be honest, the problems were not without interest.

the " shaxzhutok" is kind of power Harrok has.

thx
