The previous night

When her relatives were looking for her in the morning, her younger sister told them that Musha, a settler youth, had entered their room the previous night.

Is there any mistake in the sentence? Can I write "had entered the room in/at the night" in place of what has been written above? Thanks.

Is there any mistake in the sentence?-- No, but simple past is adequate ('...youth, entered her room...)
Can I write "had entered the room in the night" in place of what has been written above?-- You can use 'in the night'.
