The Present Perfect / The Past Simple

Hello,
could you help me, please?

I have a question concerning the use of the Present Perfect and the Past Simple. Would the Americans prefer to use the Past Simple Tense rather than the Present Perfect in the sentences below?

Have you finished?
Did you finish?

I have already watered the flowers.
I already watered the flowers.

I have heard that the Present Perfect is often replaced by the Past Simple Tense by Americans and would be very grateful for confirmation from American native speakers.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Kind regards.
