The present perfect continuous

Hi, I've got a question linked with the tense above. I'm going to give you an example, so that you can see what I would like to get.

- Hi John. Sorry, but I can't go to the party, because I've been working in the garden. I'm so exhausted.

- That's a shame. What have you been doing there?/What were you doing there?

- I've been raking/ I was raking

- With whom have you been raking?/ With whom were you raking?

Should we get on with using the present perfect continuous? Or would it be better to use the past continuous?
