the prefix semi-

0 Hi,02br
00how is the prefix "semi" usually pronounced? Is it 01i01b00seh-me02b02i00 or 01b01i00seh-my02i02b00? My dictionaries say "seh-me", but I've heard it as "seh-my" more often, I think. 02br

0 Both are used in North American English. It's not really region specific--see the article on American English and Candian English in Wikipedia. They're simply alternate pronunciations, sort of like "route" /r\aUt/ or /r\ut/. Some people use exclusively one or the other, others use them both interchangeable, some use the /i/ version usually but use /aI/ for emphasis. You can use either one.

10Ah, I understand. I think I'll say "seh-me" then, I like that version more (I also like "root" for "route" more, by the way).02br
