The prefix ANTI-

Hi,

I think I have heard some native speakers pronounce this prefix with the second syllable emphasized, and pronounced as "tie".
anTIE-globalization
anTIE-tank
anTIE virus sw.

Or maybe I just mistook those people for native English speakers? If you could comment on the use of ANTI-?

thank you!

Many North American speakers say 'semEYE-final' etc, so you may well have heard the pronunciations you quote from the same group of people. Our US friends will comment when they wake up later. Rover

It's more common in California to hear the "long e" in semi- and anti-, though it is sometimes pronounced with a "long i", especially in specific words.

Pronouncing it as antie seems to be a good idea to me since it prevents confusion with the prefix ante- (even though there are few words for which both prefixes would make sense).
