Both powers-that-be and minions are part of the subject. Both are nouns.

is "while not very proud of it" a dependent clause and "as it stands currently" an idependent clause? What is the function of "while" and "as"- are they conjunctions? Thanks in advance.

What type of grammar structure is "before I begin" ? It seem like an incomplete idea having I as subject and begin as a verb? What purpose does it serve? Thanks
