The position of adverb

Where should these adverbs be inserted in the following sentences:

1. He dropped his cigarette end on the carpet. (very carelessly)
2. I would have believed it possible. (never)
3. I don't like fish which is fried in thick butter. (very much)
4. You ought to have given him so much money. (never)

well, i'm not sure of these adverbials's position, but i'll try:

1. Very carelessly he dropped his cigarette end on the carpet.

2. I would have never believed it possible or I would never have believed it possible.

3. I don't like very much fish which is fried in thick butter .

4. you ought never to have given him so much money.

1. Correct, but stylised. It draws attention to the adverb. If you put 'very carelessly' after 'he', the adverb is less emphatic.

2. Your 2nd option is better.

3. Not quite right. Your 'very much' now modifies fish. It's better after 'don't' (or perhaps at the end of the sentence; though that would sound rather weak).

4. Spot on.
