We live in a digital era where the advancements in science and technology have undeniably revolutionized our life in many ways. However, this comes in contradiction with the fact that astrology, which is not based on scientific evidence, is still popular, especially with young people. So, the question that begs to be asked is: why does the young generation turn to astrology in a scientifically advanced age?

Although I consider myself a rationalist, who finds it difficult to relate to those who believe in psychic phenomena, it does not seem completely absurd to me that in times of stress and confusion people may turn to their horoscope for comfort. It is often claimed that this generation is the most stressed-out generation. Therefore, resorting to astrology is simply an attempt to escape from reality and even shift the blame for one’s misfortunes to their zodiac sign. Thus, astrology often serves as a psychological tool which provides people with emotional support when they feel vulnerable.

However, there must be another explanation why astrology is particularly popular today and why it is embraced by the youth in a high-tech culture. We cannot overlook the fact that the Internet serves as a vehicle for psychics. It is not unusual for young people who spend long hours surfing the net to come across astrology forecasts. Those who want to see what the future holds for them may grab the opportunity to have a look at them out of curiosity, without fear of ridicule. If the “crystal ball” foresees a bright future, even the rationalists can turn into believers.

All things considered, the popularity of astrology seems to stem from the human need to seek hope in times of despair. Moreover, the increasing use of the Internet has enabled astrology to reach a wider audience of people and flourish.
