The plural meaning "the plural word"

Hi. Let's say a person has written two words, "man" and "men," on the board. Can we say this in reference to them, with the phrase "the singular" meaning "the singular one/word" and "The plural" meaning "The plural one/word" I hope my questioni is clear. Anyway, thank you in advance for your help.

The plural is a plural of the singular.

Anonymous The plural is a plural of the singular. Technically it is grammatically correct, but it seems an odd and somewhat pointless thing to say.

I will be honest that I am not completely sure of the question.

The man wrote on the board. (One male person writing.)

The men wrote on the board. (Many male people writing.)
