The play finishing

Hello there. I have a question.

Regarding the following four sentences:

(A) As the play was over, the audience came out of the theater.
(B) As the play finished, the audience came out of the theater.

(C) The play being over, the audience came out of the theater.
(D) The play finishing, the audience came out of the theater.

Could you please evaluate each of them depending on whether it is natural? To my ear, (A), (B) and (C) don't seem to have much problem, while (D) sounds terrible. What is your take on it?

Could you please evaluate each of them depending on whether it is natural? All four sound unnatural to me. Natural English is eg The play was over, so the audience came out of the theatre.

It seems my ear works like yours. Of course all of them work better in a literary (i.e., written) context rather than in ordinary conversation.

D would work better as The play having finished, ....
