The placement of respectively

Hi,

It is easy to place respectively if

Boys and girls want cars and toys, respectively.

But what about this?

Junior and senior managers earned 10% and 20%, respectively, more than new hires.

SHould this be

Junior and senior managers earned 10% and 20%more than new hires, respectively.

Can respectively be placed away from what it is referring to or must it be placed IMMEIDATELY after what it is referring to?

Thanks.

I would do this: Junior and senior managers earned, respectively, 10% and 20% more than new hires. - - I think it has to be very close; as you can see, I've juxtaposed it at the front.

Thank for the reply.

How about in this case?

20% and 30% of people had a car that partially and completely matched, respectively, their choice of color.

Where would you place respectively in this case?

Rescued from what? You're just making up sentences.

20% and 30% of people had a car that partially and completely matched, respectively, their choice of color.- -And this is a rather ridiculous one. I recommend that you abandon it on a little-frequented roadside and never look back.

Anyone else who can help with this question?

I am not asking whether the sentence is ridiculous.

I just want to know if the placement of "respectively" is correct or whether it it should be placed elsewhere.

Hi,

I prefer not to spend my time on a sentence that is patently ridiculous. Can you please try to come up with a better one?
