The phrase "NO/Pun intended"

Up to now, I still don't know when to use this phrase. What do you mean exactly when you say "NO" or "Pun intended?"

ie I did not intend to make a pun. It is sometimes said when you accidentally make a pun in a conversation where a pun is not appropriate. Do you know what a pun is?

As embarrassing as it is to admit, no, I don't quite know what a pun is.

I entered a local radios station competition to write the funniest pun. I was so excited and thought I'd win because I'm such a funny guy...so I entered 10 times.
Sadly I didn't win in fact none of my puns were anywhere in the top three...I was devastated not to have any winning puns.
My wife asked "Did you win dear?"
I replied " No pun in ten did!"

Ta dah!

Get it? No
