The patient was getting over the operation.

Good evening,

recently I have found this sentence:

The patient was getting over the operation.

And it made me wonder if such a sentence might be correct as a standalone sentence.
1) Can it be an answer to the question: What did the patient yesterday?
2) Doesn't it lack something? For example some feature that is specific for the past continuous tense like "Yesterday at this time the patient..."?
