The past perfect vs the past perfect progressive

Which expression is more natural in the following situation?

On Friday, a mother is amazed at how lazy her son has been for the week, and reminds him in the living room:
(a) Jeff, you have been watching TV too much this week.
(b) Jeff, you have watched TV too much this week.

Top answer

In terms of tenses (a) is more natural, but in conversation the contraction "you've" would normally be used. Also, "watching too much TV" seems more usual than "watching TV too much".
