The past form of 'would like'

I have learned that 'would like' is a polite version of 'want' and then what the past form of 'would like' is?

"I wanted to be a doctor 2 years ago."
= "I would like to be a doctor 2 years ago."?

So 'would like' can be used for the same meaning as both 'want' and 'wanted' in English?

Thank you so much as usual and have a good day.
