The Past Continuous and the Past Simple

I was mowing the lawn and he got me a pocket of cigarettes. Is this sentence written correctly? I suppose that it is but I'm not sure in 100 %

And another sentence:

He was talking to his friend and he told him that he was going to organise a party.

The last one:

-I've had driving classes today.

- How was it?

- It was ok. I was driving around London/ I drove around London? - I'd choose the first option.
