The past

Hello, I would like to ask you about the following sentences.

Four years later I was travelling across Europe.
Four years later I travelled across Europe. Can we use both tenses? Is there any difference?

It was amazing when you sang a song on the stage.
It was amazing when you were singing a song on the stage. The same question, is there any difference between these two sentences? Can we use both tenses interchangeably here?

Or did you want to say 4 years ago?
Four years ago, I was travelling across Europe.(Here, it describes an interruption which occurred almost 4 years ago. You were actually travelling even before 4 years. It stopped before 4 years from now.)

Four years later I travelled across Europe. Can we use both tenses?- Yes. Is there any difference?-- Yes. Choice depends on the context. Past progressive is generally used in relation to some other past action.
