When you write 'This car' , you point out at a particular car. In the active voice, I don't point out at any particular car.

If I wrote, 'My family has/owns this car', it would be fine to say the following:

This car is owned by my family.

Well, you could say:

A car is owned by my family.

but it isn't a very common sentence.

Hi Rotter

You've got a good point there. The fact is that what you're looking for, have in the passive voice, doesn't happen very often except for expressions like a good time was had by all. It's just not used in the passive voice and that's it. No special reason for it.

You wouldn't say en bil hars av mig in Swedish either, would you?

Cheers
