The passive

Hello,

Could you correct my sentence, please? I had to put this sentence in passive; 'She took a long time to write the composition, but at last she wrote it.'

This is how I put it in passive. The composition took a long time to have been written.

Thanks

You have conjugated an infinitive instead of the main verb in the first clause, which is "took". A long time was taken to write the composition, but at last it was written. The passive employs a form of "to be", usually.

There are three verbs in the original sentence; two of them ("take" and the 2nd "write") are used transitively, so those are the ones that you need to passivise. Here are two suggestions:

"A long time was taken writing the composition, but at last it was written".
"A long time was taken writing the composition, but at last she got it

I'm going to disagree with that last. It should be "it got written" (which is better than "was", really).
