The Passive

Hi, everybody! Once again I need your help. The question is which tense shall I use in this sentence:

Everest has been named/was named after Sir...

I think it should be the Present Perfect Passive but my teacher says it has to be the Past SImple. Could you please explain to me why? I mean, don't we use the Present Perfect for an acton we don't say when happened in the past? If so, why the Past SImple is correct for this sentence?

Thank you very much!

Here, was named is correct. (here assuming other mountains remain to be named). Not all past forms without a specific time mentioned have to be in the present perfect; however, you don't use a specific time when you use it.

Here, was named is correct.
An example with the present perfect could be: Many mountains have been named after those who discovered them...(here assuming other mountains remain to be named).
