Grammatically, the both are correct. Then how are they different in meaning?

got me thinking ~ made me ponder the idea for some time, considering the various aspects of it (This is the more idiomatic version.)
got me to think ~ made me use my brain. (In this version, it almost seems like what you think about might not even have to do with the party.)
