The other/another

Please help me with the next example:

"He was a wonderful teacher. Everyone agreed it would be hard to find the other like him."?

Why do we use "the other" here? Is "the other" used here as if it means "the second one"? Why can't we use "another" here? I see it like this: it would be hard to find any other (another, not specific) teacher like him.

I will appreciate any your help.
