When you use an idiom, it is often tricky to use it in a natural and native way. And if you don't, it will sound very odd.
Neither of your versions seems natural.

The usual way to use this idiom is to say that two things 'are two sides of the same coin', meaning that they seem different but closely related, ie two aspects of a single thing.

It's fine to use this idiom in a formal essay, as long as you use it correctly.

Please don't "yell" at us by using all caps.

Another more appropriate idiom is "the carrot and the stick"

You can use the "carrot and stick" approach in raising children, but often this doesn't work very well.

Could you check if the following essay is fine?
it is undoubtely true that , through further education, graduated students aspire to get a rewarding job and , hopefully , to make e successful career. In order to help students persue such a aim, universities play e majior role as they should supply students with the "right tools" that are required for a specific employment. Opponents of this view believe that university's goal is nevertheless somewhat questionable: students should study and acquire knowledge for themselves and their personal growth, without focusing on what potential empoyers may need. The issue about "skills versus culture" and about what the main function of university should be, is quite critical. Nevertheless, I believe that the best solution is in the middle.
Of course it cannot be denied that nowadays finding a joba has become a major and serious matter. Due to economical crisis, being employed is everyday harder and harder and thus, if graduates show specific skills, such as electronic engineer or phisioterapist, thay may have a better chance to find a good and remunerative job. Therefore universities should help people become qualified.
On the other hand, culture and deep knowledge should not be forgotten in terms of university's main function. A graduated student should be first and foremost open-minded, able to reflect on various issues and willing to consider new ideas. Thanks to a profound education and wide knowledge, someone has the possibility to become a not-passive citizen too, undestand political and social issues and play thus an active role in our society.
Therefore, I would say that the main purpose of university should be transmitting knowledge and desire for a never-ending learning ( or ehancing thist for learning ) to students, apart from teaching them mere skills for their potentially future employments. Showing to have marvellous skills is not worthwhile if not supported by a real and pure knowledge and this is the greatest benefit students should be given when being at universities.
