The origin of the English language

Hi,

I've heard from German people that the origin of the English language is the German language. The English language has derived from German language.
Is there any body who has correct info in this area please?

So we can say that the origin of both (modern) English and (modern) German languages are the same which is Germanic dialects, yes?
If so, is there any (online) document for that saying?
