In the first 9 months of 2000, fishery sector in the whole country exploited and raised more than 1.54 million tons of various products, a 12.1 % increase against the same period last year, exporting 202,290 tons with 959 million US dollar of export turnover, a 39% increase and accounting for 87.2% of the whole year export plan.

1/Why fishery sector but not the fishery sector ? It should be 'the'. The article is required.

If both, what is the difference in menaing btw them?

2/If I don't want to use raised, can I use increased? If not, why? Exploited, raised and increased all seem like unnatural verbs here. It is meaningless to 'exploit and raise a ton of products'. Was this paragraph written by a non-native speaker?

If yes,what is the difference in meaning btw them?Are they interchangeable in this context?Why?

3/What is correct, 959 million US dollar or US959 million dollar ? $959 million US.

4/In your opinion, is exporting or exported correct? Exporting. Is its subject fishery sector? It's a participle that describes 'the fishery sector'.

5/If I don't want to use turnover, can I use revenue? If not, why? You already asked about this in your recent thread 'revenue vs. turnover'. Were you not satisfied wth the answer you received in that thread?

I understand that in this context, I can use revenue. (I have asked again because I see retail turnover but I don't see retail revenue).

I agree with Clive. The sentence has some problems.
As far as I can guess, the only possible sense that "raised and exploited" could have here is if the writer meant "raised fish out of the water (caught fish) and then exploited this". But sentence doesn't sound natural at all and it doesn't sound as though it was written by a native speaker.

He walked to the park, talking to his friend.

He walked to the park and (also) talked to his friend.

He walked to the park while talking to his friend.

He walked to the park as he talked to his friend.

In the first 9 months of 2000, fishery sector in the whole country exploited and raised more than 1.54 million tons of various products, a 12.1 % increase against the same period last year, and also exported 202,290 tons with 959 million US dollar of export turnover, a 39% increase and accounting for 87.2% of the whole year export plan.

3/I write this paragraph.Everyday, I read newspapers and I choose any paragraphs I like to translate them into English.I think this is a very good idea.

It also exported 202,290 tons which amounts $959 miliion US, a 39 percent increase from last year, and makes up 87.2 percent of its total export amount.
