The or an invoice

Today I received an email from our surveyor to confirm that the survey report was ready to send to us.

I wrote the following:

Please send me the invoice and I will pay you straightaway.

Which article is appropriate here and why?

Thanks

"the invoice" is correct. It is understood that you mean "the invoice for this piece of work". "an invoice" is not impossible, but I would use "the".
