The or a grocery store?

Hi. Please help. Let's say you're writing what I would call a logic puzzle question that gives clues and expects a person to arrive at (come up with) an answer.

Could we use the definite article "the" before the never-before-mentioned name of a place in the beginning for a puzzle asking for the right day - something like this?

One day, John Doe went to the grocery store (a grocery store?) and saw two people he met at the same day together the last week, but couldn't remember what day it was....
