Hi. Could we also use the phrases "a difficulty" and "an opportunity" or "opportunity" in two places underlined respectively in Winston Churchill's saying "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty"? Thank you for your help in advance.

Winston Churchill said:

A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.

Hi, Thank you. I am not sure but I think people are most likely to use the indefinite article in sentences like what Mr. Churchill has written. Why do you think Mr. Churchill used the indefinite article "the" before the word "difficulty" and "opportunity" instead of the definite article? Thank you again for your help in advance.
