The only one

Hi

H used to protect a girl.
H: Who's protecting her if you're here?
B: The only one that needs protecting is the one that gets in her way.
H: It won't be me.

I think that in the B's line the subject is "the only one" and the complement is "the one", but to me, "the only one" doesn't seem "the one". B sounds like talking about two different people at least. I don't know if I'm missing something. Could you help, please?
