The only correct answer?

In a grammar exercise book for high school students (in Japan), there was a question:

I ( gain ) weight. I have to lose some.

In that book, "am gaining" is the only correct answer, but I think that is not the only possible option.

1, I am gaining weight.
2, I have gained weight.
3, I have been gaining weight.
4, I gained weight.

Sentence 4 simply refers to the past, so the fact that "I gained weight" does not necessarily means "I have gained weight".
However, Sentence 2 sounds OK too.
Sentence 3 is not possible?

Why the sentence 1 is the only correct answer?

Thank you in advance.

They normally want the best answer. They are all possible, but "I have gained weight" is best because the others would more likely be followed by a different comment. The choice is too fine for a test question, I'd say.

AlpheccaStars1, I am gaining weight. I need to stop eating so much. 2. I have gained weight. I have to lose some. 3, I have been gaining weight. I need to stop eating so much and go on a diet.4, I gained weight. I'd like to lose some.
They are fine, but I could mix and match most of them.
