The old British version of the finger

. As I was driving along, a mini-Cooper cut me off quite drastically and when I caught up with this car at a traffic light, I wound down my window and proceeded to shout out "You stupid old B..." but before I could the complete sentence, the driver (HRH himself) leaned across his protection officer and gave me the old British version of the finger.

Could anyone explain what ' the finger means? Thanks!

Looked like a middle finger? If so, how is related to British version?
