'the number 7'

When we write the number # like 'the number 7', I was wondering if 'the' modifies '7'or 'the number' is equal to '7' the number = 7? How do I have to analyze such phrases?

Thank you so much as usual in advance.

When you use the article 'the', you're talking about specific things. Maybe you want to buy something but there are 7 choices also numbered 1 to 7 of whatever it is you want to buy. Your thinking what to choose, so a sales representative suggested "What about the number 7?".

So basically you use article 'the' when you the person you're talking to knows what it is your talking about.
