"The news just come through"

Here is a sentence from a local Olympiad on English language I've been struggling with:

The customers at the crowded pub were ecstatic at the news ________ through of Poland's qualification for Euro 2008.

A/ had just come B/ just came C/ came just D/ just come

The correct answer is D, which I chose intuitively. However I don't seem to be able to give any logical reasoning why this answer should be chosen. What I've thought of is that 'come' might have been used in passive, as in "the news just sent in"; but then, it's an intransitive verb... Emotion: thinking
