The necklace was modeled after this one

Probably in the movie Titanic. The necklace worn by the actress in that movie was modeled after this one.

Hi,

Is it correct to replace "was modeled after" in the above with "was made after//copied//imitated?" Thanks.

Thanks, Clive.

To make sure, is the reason why the following doesn't make sense is that the subject of copied must be a human being?

The necklace worn by the actress in that movie copied this one.

Hi,

Generally speaking, yes.

Although a copying machine can also make a copy.
