'The near east'

There are three types of easts the near, middle, and far

AS far as I know the far east refers to China, the middle east refers to the region from Iran to Egypt and whatever is between them, but which region/s does the 'near east' refer to? Does it refer to Turkey, or Greece, or what?

The Middle East is the area around the Mediterranean, especially Israel and the Arab countries from Turkey to North Africa and eastwards to Iran. The Near East a term originally applied to the Balkan states of southeastern Europe, but now generally applied to the countries of southwestern Asia between the Mediterranean Sea and India (including the Middle East), especially in historical contexts.
