the national character?

Could you help me with this, please?

If I want to generalize the following ideas, can I just say 'the national characters of other countries' or should I say 'the national characters of other peoples?'

[Japanese are hardworking/Italians are cheerful/ Americans are friendly]

A) I'd like to know whether the phrase 'the national characters requires "people" or "country" after 'of.'

B) I'd also like to know whether it's better to say 'characters' instead of 'character' to show that each country has different national characters.

You're right. I should've posted full sentences. Thank you very much for pointing that out.

It is said that it takes specialists in that field years of research to analyze the national characters of other countries. However, we tend to say things like 'Italians are cheerful' or 'Americans are friendly' as if we knew a lot about their national characters.
