The movie became a blockbuster/hit

The movie became a blockbuster/hit and transformed Vanessa into a superstar.

I presume blockbuster and hit fit equally well in the above sample, but do they convey exactly the same idea? Thanks.

I believe I have heard the two used together, just as you wrote them originally (a blockbuster hit, a blockbuster of a hit).

You can also have a "sleeper hit" where it gains audience little by little, so that in the end it was a very profitable movie. With a "blockbuster" people line up around the block to buy tickets from the beginning.
