The most basic of tasks is/are

Hello,

I'm not sure which verb form I should use in the sentence below. Should it be "is" or "are", or maybe both are correct? By "most basic of tasks" I mean many every day activities.

"After the car accident, even the most basic of tasks, such as going to the toilet or getting dressed, is/are hardly possible without help".

Thank you
