The most anticipated/expected concert

This is the most anticipated/expected concert of the year. All my friends are going.

Hi,
Do both anticipated and expected fit in the above and mean about the same? If not, could you tell me why in a few words? Thanks.

Top answer

"expected" is not what works in this sentence. "anticipated" yes. "Expected" means it is expected to happen, and not that people are looking forward to it, like "anticipated" does.
