The most

Hi teachers,

He earns the most money at work.

Here the most is an adjective or and adverb?

It has to be an adjective because it is in front of 'money' and money is a noun?

Please you are more than welcome to correct me if I am mistaken.

Is it an adverb?

Thanks in advance

Thank you Mister Micawber. I always get confused when there is a verb in the sentece because I don't know which one is been modified the verb or the noun. Even though in this sentence 'the most' can't be an adverb because it should have an adverb after it, am I right?

For example:

The most carefully.

The most slowly, and so on.

Then 'the most' is an adverb beca

Yes, that is certainly true: adverbs modify other adverbs. And in your sentence, 'most' refers to 'money', making it an adjective.

Thank you very much once again Mister Micawber. You made my day, as Clint Eastwood said in a movie.
