situation:

A murder occurred on Monday, now being Wednesday. The murder took place two days ago.
A murder occurred on Monday last week, now being Wednesday. The murder took place nine days ago.

In both situations, is THE optional?:

1. On (the) Tuesday morning, the suspect was seen dumping a card case, which could prove to be an important piece of evidence.

2. On (the) Monday when the murder took place, the suspect returned to the restaurant before (the) morning, so his alibi fell to pieces.
