The modern geometry of the oil furnace

The modern geometry of the oil furnace and water heater seem out of place in this crumbling pit that reminds Zinkoff of ancient ruins.

Hi,

We don't usually have furnaces in this tropical island. So I'm not sure of the meaning of "the modern geometry of the oil furnace" in the above. Does it amount to "the modern geometric line of the furnace that uses oil/gasoline?" Thanks.
