The modal "would" use correct?

Hi. I think one of the uses of the modal verb "would" is to indicate/denote habitual action or action that is done repeatly (possibly over some extended period of time?). Having said that, I think I have seen some cases in writing that seem to denote what appears to be one-time action. Is the following use of the modal verb "would" correct?

The guests came in all at once. He would prepare the meal and they all ate. They were satisfied with what they were served.

No, it is not correct. 'Would' is for past habit, among other things, but not this.
