The missing verb "were"

By 644, the heads of the Soga were no longer satisfied to act behind the scenes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soga_no_Emishi and his son http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soga_no_Iruka began to build increasingly elaborate palaces and tombs for themselves, styling themselves "sovereigns".
In response, the leader of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nakatomi_clan, Nakatomi no Kamatari (later known as the founder of the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujiwara and traditionally referred to as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fujiwara_no_Kamatari), conspired with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soga_no_Kurayamada_no_Ishikawa_no_Maro and Prince Naka no Oe (later http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Emperor_Tenji) and arranged for Iruka's assassination. I did it to emphasize that you, yourself may consider yourself qualified as an interested person. Technically, though, the clause is a sentence fragment, and it's not really acceptable to have it stand alone except in very informal communication. I shouldn't do that in this forum, and you're correct that the clause should be joined to the previous sentence after a comma.
