The meaning of 'way' as adv.

I found an example in dictionary. "She finished the race way ahead of the other runners."

The dictionary says about 'way' as adv.: very far; by large amount

Does the sentence mean such as 'She won the race keeping a big gap between her and the other runners.'?

Thank you for your help. Emotion: smile
