The meaning of "way"

Today, I see a sentence below: "Then I normally ride my bike to school, apart from in winter, when it's way too cold". I quite wonder what the meaning of the word: "way" in the sentence. Please explain its meaning and the structure of this sentence to me. Thank you very much.
